Years of Experience vs Age Bias

I'm hoping to get some expert input on this question: How do you balance years of experience with age bias? I have a client saying she was told not to put 15+ or 20 years of experience unless the role specifically asks for that much; that she should only put the number of years mentioned in the job description (this is for a résumé and LinkedIn). Example: While she may have 20 years' experience, the vacancy announcement stated 8-10 years' experience, so she should only put 10+.

WARNING about using Office Depot/OfficeMax for printing resumes

I recently sent some resumes to Office Depot for printing. When I got there, all of the grey shaded boxes (e.g., Name, Work History, Education) printed in light purple. In addition, each side of each box had a small dropout (white area).

I asked the counter person what happened and he said, “You sent them as PDF files. We can’t print documents from PDF files correctly. Send them again in Word.”

Wow! Had I been cutting it close and picking these up on the way to the post office or an interview, I would have been out of luck.

If you think you will ever need a resume or CV printed at Office Depot/OfficeMax in the future, plan on doing a test now to make sure your documents will print correctly.

They need in-person and virtual resume reviewers to help candidates. They also need help with LinkedIn profiles.

ATS-Compliant Resumes

Hello all! I was recently certified as a CPRW in May 2021, but I have been writing resumes professionally since October 2020. I've really enjoyed delving into all of the webinars and resources available to learn more about the craft!

My biggest question that has yet to be answered is: How do we properly craft ATS-compliant resumes? Or rather, what are some trusted resources that other professionals use to test to see if resumes are ATS compliant?

A lot of my research has been contradictory. Use headers and footers, don't use headers and footers. Columns are okay, columns are never okay. I am trying to create a resource of best practices for myself so that I can best help my clients.

Thank you for any and all input provided!

Hiring a New Coach/Resume Writer

All,
My practice is growing and I'm in need of another coach and resume writer to work with our clients! Career UpRising works with mid and late-career professionals (no early-career clients) to help them change careers or get better job search results. We've been in business since 2015 and have grown EVERY YEAR since and most notably through the pandemic. Learn more here: www.careeruprising.com

The ideal candidate would be:
Both a career coach and writer (I could take just a Resume Writer if needed)
Holds a CPRW or similar credential
Able to take a consistent stream of clients (about 5-6 per month)

I'd welcome new coaches/writers that are just starting their practice and I'm happy to train!

Please reach out to me at lorraine@careeruprising.com if you are interested or have questions!

Concurrent Jobs and Various Locations

What is the best way to handle concurrent and overlapping jobs?

Example:

Client has worked as a Property Manager 2008 - Present. They had several other jobs during that time period. Most recent was as a Product Support Representative 2015 - 2021.

Currently client has the Property Manager job listed as the fourth job on resume - because of the start date. Thinking that since they left the Product Support Representative role it might be better to list it first. Shows they are currently working. Interested in other thoughts.

Same client indicates that Property Manager job was in "Various Locations" - will be asking client if there was a HQ office to list as location for first choice or to least get the states "Various locations in CA and AZ". Appears that the company has LLCs in numerous states.
