I am not sure if it merits a whole Zoom session. Does anybody relatively new (under 5 years) wonder constitutes plagiarism in creating resumes for clients? Louise Kursmark and Jan Melnik were on Jay's last "Spotlight on You." As they shared, again, the question surfaced in the back of my mind. I have several books, Susan Britton, Whitcomb, Louise Kursmark/Wendy Enlow, and Arnold Boldt to name a few. With almost no work history of my own to claim, I admittedly was grasping for every resource I could in the early going. While I have never passed off resumes verbatim from the books, online resumes, or TORI resumes as my own, I had to go somewhere to build up from ground zero. In addition, what about design elements from award-winning resumes displayed online from CDI, NRWA, and other bodies? I know the professionals in this industry are very giving. However, would not to presume upon anybody's generosity or overlook legalities involved.

We write books for others to gain greater insights as to what can be done to successfully promote our clients. We fully encourage job seekers and coaches to replicate strategies, formats, and concepts that work for them. There is NO PLAGIARISM except when someone copies a resume exactly to put in their books :-). Other than that - we write books and present ideas for you to use and "improve."

Thanks Jay, I do have to say I have yet to find a resume sample, online or in books that would be a "perfect fit" for any of my job seekers. And of course, each client's situation really seems to require I put my own spin on the bullet points. Your response puts my mind at rest.
