When I provide instruction to clients about using LinkedIn, I encourage them to include a picture on their profile. However, mature workers are (understandably) concerned about a picture giving clues to their age. I try to explain that having a Profile picture means that they're likely to get more Profile views and connection requests. However, many are still reticent. What advice do you give your clients when this comes up? Thanks in advance for your responses.

I explain the same. I also tell them to find a good photographer and talk with them about their concerns. Photographers can smooth the photos for them. They can be photographed in a setting that makes them comfortable. It's just another marketing tool for them.

The other thing I tell people is that we are who we are and part of the process of finding a job for the candidate is to screen potential employers out as much as it is to attract them. So, if an employer is not favorable for an age bracket, perhaps it's better to never get a call from them than it is to go through the process and waste time until the do figure out the age. So, post the best picture, spend the time to have it professionally done, try to get comfortable in your skin about the picture, and be clear on what company environment is the best. Ultimately the hiring manager/end user is going to figure it out. They are just more likely engage with a picture.

I wrote a blog article on this very subject: https://fransfineediting.com/you-oughta-be-in-pictures/ You need a profile photo for LI--that's the nature of the medium, and I never look twice at profiles that don't have them. I also agree with Kristina's and Jay's comments.
