Anyone know the best places to search for client referrals? Do we have a forum here dedicated to this? I am always looking for new boards and networks as a "goto" place in between writing projects. Opposite of finding us, I guess.

Paid percentage referrals as well. Are there places where customers go to post they are looking for a qualified writer (besides PARW, of course).

I tried LinkedIn groups but didn't see much action only advertisements. Thanks for any help on this topic!

Hi Pauline, I checked out your website and it looks like you have been in the industry for at least two years. Your own clients are a great source of referrals plus making yourself visible on social media with quality content geared to the market you want. If you also enable the LinkedIn Services in your dashboard on LinkedIn, you will find some people who reach out to you. Make sure you use hash tags to connect yourself with your audience. As far as other writers, I have seen some writers post here for contract writers and CDI does the same. Hope this helps

I agree with Julie about LinkedIn and updating to use the services features. You may also want to take a look at UpWork or Yelp! if it is active in your market. Your clients are excellent sources of referrals.

I would say that early in my career, about 75% of my new clients were referred to me by other satisfied clients, colleagues, friends, relatives and members of professional associations I joined. This shows the power of networking like crazy with everyone, and making the most of professional associations that you join--for example, volunteer for board positions and get your name known in your professional community. Best of luck, Paulina!

For those who receive a ton of client referrals, how do you encourage this beyond "We always welcome referrals" in your signature or final drafts email?

The vast majority of my clients are delighted with my work, but only a handful have referred people to me (that I know of). I do send a $25 Thnks (www.thnks.com if you want to check it out further) to clients when someone they've referred invests in my services, but I would like to be at a much higher rate. The 75% rate that Frances mentioned would be perfect...

Pauline: the LinkedIn Services that Julie suggested is incredible. Right now, it's my primary source of private practice clients. Subcontracting is vital too. It not only provides you with clients; it also provides you with mentoring and coaching.

Have a great day, all!
Melissa Kelley CPRW
Kelley Resumes and Wordsmithing

thnks.com is great site, especially the holiday ideas! There are so many writers and websites out there, people tend to look for referrals rather than sift through hundreds of sites.

I think the only thing I could add outside of what has already been said would be to just find a way to talk to lots of people either online or in person as you go about your days. The more people you talk to and mention what you do the more work that will come.

I would also try and be more direct with prior clients by asking them if they know anyone that could benefit from your services. Referral bonuses are also helpful.
